Writing down the unwritten rules
Actions are what defines the kind of being someone or something is, be it a human being or a speechless animal. Why should we be bothered by how people define us when we know who we are? is a good statement and sentiment. I respect all such perspectives but at the end of the day no matter how unbothered and intellectual we try to be, we all are humans that thrive on external validation to instigate a sort of reassurance that will both make us more self-aware and self-confident. Besides, if we do not care about how we are even seen then why show up anywhere in the first place. We all are social beings and there are a lot of clauses in our unwritten rules that people mostly refrain from talking and which we are here to talk about today.
THE CHAOS WITHIN
No matter how chaotic our daily life gets, the biggest chaos that a person will be handling is the one going on in their heads. An individual in general when they step out in the world, even if the surroundings are not chaotic, they always are under a person's guise and a judgement of some level gets passed intentionally or otherwise. The calculated individuals are two levels above this, they are always under constant judgement and scrutiny from their own selves about how they are being looked at. When people say, I won't judge you for anything, they actually do mean it but the silver-lining here is that they are not making a conscious effort to judge you but their subconscious always does and it is smart enough to remember those details and at the end of it affect the way you are conceived in their heads. Besides, all of this doesn't matter when you are confident enough about who you are and how skilled you are because at the end of the day if you are self-aware and self-sufficient with your skills, even if the whole world turns against you, you will be standing taller.
CHALLENGING TRADITIONS
We've treated some very trivial topics as something too sensitive and taboo at a certain point of time in history and have evolved for so long that people have now forgotten why all of this stuff is even considered that way. We follow rules not blindly but in the faith of an ancestor that we have never met or interacted with and are placing our trust on that entity to guide us in the correct path. That obviously is not wrong according to the conditioning that we grew up in but if you think about it, even they have had a brief amount of life, obviously they cannot predict future or have seen every problem you ever face. The point of these stories and superstitions is not to go behind them like a herd of glorified sheep but to develop a cognitive ability of your own that can assess why a particular topic has even emerged and why according to their perspective what they have done so is right. It is for you to shape yourself to handle that situation in your own way. When you educate yourself from something, try to grow wiser at the end of it and not a book that knows of it, we have documented history for that.
COGNITIVE TOLL ON MODERNITY
Evolution of human beings brought smarter things surrounding us with comfort and security, so much so that our predecessors would be loathing with jealousy as to why they could not be a part of such advancements. But, in the process of advancing our life style, it has stole our peak cognition, we are not using our brain to its fullest potential. Why would we bother to remember when we can set reminders and access a bucket load of information one tap away. All these habits are adversely affecting some minute things which do run major things in our lives. Primarily, we have lost focus which is directly affecting our learning and attention span, both of which are very necessary for us to grow at the least. It has also ate away our retention rate, which directly affects the kind of content we consume. The kind of content is again a very integral part of who we are because every other person around you is seeing you as their form of content and only the kind of content you consume will start a discourse in your head at the end of which you determine who you are. If our content habits do not change soon, we will all become a bunch of awkward rats surviving in this laboratory called Earth.
It's too boring to sit through ending lines for our brains and I get it but still, this is where we should realize that this is a sign that we need to change. I am not writing this to preach anything or say that someone else is better than you. All my intent is to materialize an imminent threat that I see vaguely in the near future taking us over. We all have a bunch of roller coasters running around in our head which needs addressing but if only we can all take a brief 10 minutes of nothingness and silence to be grateful about the things around us and also careful about the things inside us. Be wise, be at peace and finally shape yourself in a way that you would be proud to be yourself.
Good one.
